UMAC Central's 2013 Outstanding Team of the Year

After an exciting year in UMAC football, it is now time to recognize those players who stand out among the rest of the athletes and produce the most for their teams on the field. With so many teams on the rise, evening out the talent distribution in the UMAC, it was difficult to choose all of the talented players at each position, especially on defense. Some players who may have deserved the honor in past seasons, may have been overlooked this season due to so much talent at their position. We have done our best to factor in not only statistics, but the performances we have seen on the field in our decisions. So now, without further delay, we present to you, the 2013 UMAC Central Outstanding Team of the Year!

  1. Great list but...it is completely ridiculous to not have at least one EC lineman or linebacker on this list. This senior corps was just narrowly the statistically second best D in the UMAC.

How about at least Jacob Carls??? 79 tackles, 9.5 TFL, 3 sacks, 4 Brk

Stew McGinnis??? 59 tackles, 17 TFL (more than anyone on your all-d team), 4.5 sacks.

    C'mon...

  2. Where is Jake Carls? Could argue for Stew as well, but rest of list seems pretty accurate.

  3. As we stated in the post, defense was especially hard to select. Especially for Eureka, because we were only able to see parts of a couple games (sorry, we are not going to pay $10.95 per month to watch their home games) and could not factor their on-field play as much as we could for the other athletes and had to rely mostly on statistics. Carls and McGinnis both narrowly missed the cut and were our 5th LB and 3rd DE, respectively, by vote. Its not that we don't feel they are deserving of the award, we had just seen more of the other players on-field performance and gave us enough reason to make the choice.

    1. Thanks for your response, wasn't belong overly critical, just felt like Jake should have made the cut, as he was selected all conference(again!). Thanks for the work this year and for giving the respect that this team earned this year, still hate that EC lost to Greenville after out playing them for 3 of the 4 quarters, EC was better that day. Looking forward to next year, will be heavy on offense with big shoes to fill on defensive side of the ball. Enjoy off season.

  4. Fair enough, but frankly if you can't fairly evaluate each team, there's no point in putting together an all conference list. You could call it the UMAC Northern Division OTOTY. Numbers aside, the EC LB corps was unmatched in ferocity and impact on games.

  5. Our apologies on this most egregious error. We will make sure that next time we voluntarily, on our own time, without reimbursement, in addition to our families, jobs, and other responsibilities, write a blog and put together an all conference team for the lowest conference in the lowest NCAA division of college football, we will break down every minute of game film to ensure that our list will accurately represent the talents of the athletes. We hope someday we can reach the level of the UMAC All-Conference awards, the NFL Pro Bowl, and all other fairly evaluated all-star teams.
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
