Picked to finish ninth, Crown College looks to avoid losing every game this season as they did a season ago. With 43 new faces added to the roster, it seems like it is an uphill climb. Two new coordinators could help the Storm regain their form from 2010 that held the team’s most successful season in school history. Amos Schmidt (RB) is the main headline for returning starters as he led the team with 10 TD’s last year and ran for 100 yards in four games.
Defensively, Crown allowed a whopping 425 yards a game. Ranked ninth in the conference in total defense, Crown must find some talent among the youth to not allow 36 points a game again. Returning are Zach Jusczak and Drew Zoromski who were among the leaders in tackles. Overall, this team is very young and lacking talent in a lot of areas.
Prediction: Realistically, this team is two or three years away from even becoming a middle of the road ball club. If everyone sticks around and they recruit well, they might have a chance to be in the top four or five teams in the conference. Until then, a very successful season would be three or four wins. They will be favored to win in the first game of the season, but then face Eureka, Westminter, and Greeville. The next winnable game would be against Presentation, but then face Northwestern and St. Scholastica. The season could get interesting at the very end for Crown at they meet up with familiar foes Morris and Martin Luther. If they are able to get a couple wins at the end of the season, it could build momentum for them going into the next couple of years. Unfortunately, this year I only see them going 1-7 in conference play.
