MacMurray College has endured a rough stretch in their football program in recent years. Plenty of distractions filled the 2011 season as the Highlanders went through two head coaching changes, a flood on campus, and a 20 game losing steak dating back to 2009. However, MacMurray was able to win its last two games and finish the year on a positive note beating both Eureka and Crown. They hope to carry that momentum into this season and pull themselves out of the cellar of the UMAC.
The 2012 version of the MacMurray football team features 40 new faces. This is almost unheard of for a college football program and is not a traditional recipe for success, but a team that has won only 3 games in the past 3 seasons is certainly looking for some change. John Brockhouse has won the starting quarterback job out of camp despite starting only one game last season. Taylor Hosta will lead a defense that must improve drastically if they hope to be competitive in 2012.
Prediction: It is hard to imagine MacMurray doing much of anything this season. I would expect moderate improvement over last season's effort, however, the gap between MacMurray and the rest of the UMAC is so wide that it is unrealistic to expect them to win more than two games. Hopefully, this program is finally moving in the right direction and has some stability on the coaching staff. MacMurray still has a long way to go though and will be significantly outmatched by virtually all of its opponents. At best, MacMurray wins two games. At worst, they finish 0-10 once again. Look for MacMurray to battle with Crown to stay out of the cellar.
