Martin Luther College Knights at Presentation College Saints
Martin Luther's defense was the difference maker in this game, only allowing the Saints 3 of 13 third down conversions and 273 yards of total offense, despite giving up a 70 yard scoring run. Knights QB Luke Rothe led the team to victory with 227 yards and 2 scores through the air and 105 yards on the ground. Martin Luther still has yet to win in the UMAC, but this 17-13 win gave them their second non-conference win on the year.
Crown College Storm at Greenville College Panthers
It is hard to defeat a team when you give up 412 yards rushing, so its no surprise that Crown was defeated 49-18 by the Panthers. Crown's offense played respectably with 420 yards of production, but there was nothing respectable on the defensive side as Greenville was able to run whenever and wherever they chose. The Panther's Immanuel Gamble averaged 11.5 yards a carry and only needed 18 rushes to gain 207 yards and a score. QB Brendan Chambers and RB Steven Glover both crossed the goalline twice to contribute to the calming of the Storm.
University of Minnesota - Morris Cougars at Northwestern College Eagles
The boxscore shows a much more even game than what the scoreboard shows and with Northwestern leading 31-7 at halftime, there wasn't much left to do in the second half but wait til the final horn sounded. The Cougars unconventional two quarterback offense could not get much production until the second half garbage time, presumably against the Eagles second-line defense. Northwestern's offense was solid as usual, marching down the field and into the endzone on 4 of their first 5 drives. The Eagles two-headed running back combo of Josh Sinnen and Chris Simon-Wallace produced 173 yards on just 27 carries to keep the team undefeated in conference play.
College of St. Scholastica Saints at MacMurray Highlanders
In reality, the Highlanders should have done the Saints a favor and just forfeited the game last week to save them the money it took to make the trip down. The game was never really close as the CSS Saints used multiple players to amass 321 yards on the ground and used several long scoring plays to defeat the Highlanders 43-6. The only bright spot for MacMurray was forcing the Saints to settle for a field goal on 3 of 4 trips into the redzone. Luckily for Scholastica, they started four of their scoring plays from outside the 20 yd line. The Saints now turn their attention to next week for what may be their only struggle of the season - their matchup against the Northwestern College Eagles.
Eureka College Red Devils at Westminster College Blue Jays
This game was as close as we predicted it would be until Eureka scored three times in the 4th quarter to win 31-18. Neither team had any luck on 3rd down, going a combined 8 of 27 on that crucial down. Eureka had a fairly balanced offense with 159 passing yards and 183 rushing, while Westminster gained all of their yards with 395 yards from QB Sam Plassmeyer. Eureka's defense stifled the rushing game of Westminster, forcing a net loss of -1 yards on the day. A interception returned by the Red Devils for a touchdown with 8 minutes remaining put Eureka ahead for good and both teams ended the game with a 3-2 record on the year.
